Since 2019, Rhyme & Lime has grown into St. John’s signature gathering for poetry and spoken word — a vibrant space where emerging and established voices meet to share their work before an engaged, intergenerational audience. Hosted at Bajo el Sol Gallery & Art Bar, the monthly event has become a cultural touchstone on the island, welcoming poets from across the Virgin Islands and visiting writers from abroad. Over the past five years, Rhyme & Lime has nurtured a thriving creative community, amplifying local stories and providing an open stage for expression, dialogue, and artistic exchange.
To celebrate this milestone, Bajo el Sol Gallery publishe a landmark anthology featuring original poems performed at Rhyme & Lime between 2019 and 2023. Conceived as both a tribute and a living archive, the anthology gathers a diverse chorus of voices — reflecting the depth, resilience, and imagination of Caribbean poetry today.
Edited by Raven Phillips (current host of Rhyme & Lime) and writer/historian David Knight Jr., the book will honors the event’s five-year journey while preserving the power of these performances in print for the first time. More than a collection of poems, the anthology celebrates community — the artists who have stepped up to the mic, the listeners who have gathered month after month, and the space that has made it all possible.
